Designing a 37m2 one-bedroom apartment: tips and ideas from a designer
Designing a 37m2 one-bedroom apartment, as seen by a designer who optimized this small apartment with arches and practical tips.
In this 37m2 one-bedroom apartment, every detail truly matters when it comes to improving daily life. Designer Lina Knyazeva created an interior tailored to her mother’s needs, ensuring it met all her criteria. But she added her own creative touch to make it a truly unique space. The result is a well-organized, elegant space full of great ideas. Above all, she sought to create a warm atmosphere using natural materials. Nothing was left to chance; every area has a specific purpose. The floor plan shows a compact yet complete layout despite the small size. It features a cozy living room and an open kitchen, a separate bedroom, two walk-in closets, and a bathroom.
The wooden kitchen is the focal point of the living area. In this space, which also includes the living room furnished with a lovely green sofa, movement is simple and fluid. The wooden furniture is consistent throughout the entire space. Its separate bedroom is a haven of peace dedicated to rest, with its soothing colors.
The arches play a key role here, serving as a true signature of this apartment. They soften the transitions between spaces. Some doors have been replaced with terracotta-colored curtains. In the kitchen, on the dining side, a closed arch features a large mirror placed opposite the window. It amplifies the natural light and creates the illusion of an additional opening, like an imaginary window.
The color palette is simple, yet it creates an interesting, subtle contrast. Warm wood complements the deep green sofa and graphic textiles. The open shelves display carefully selected objects. The lighting highlights the shapes, particularly around the arches and in the bedroom. Ceramic wall sconces add a handcrafted touch. The bathroom is modern, equipped with a comfortable shower—a wise choice to allow an aging resident to remain in this 37m2 one-bedroom apartment for many years to come. Photo : Liza Gurovskaya
