A vintage apartment in Almaty inspired by France
This 260m2 vintage apartment in Almaty is inspired by France and designed for a family and their everyday comforts
In this vintage apartment in Almaty, designer Gulnara Karina, who had just moved in with her family and three children, wanted an interior inspired by France. She sought not only an atmosphere reminiscent of country homes but also urban comfort. During the renovation, a complete transformation was carried out. The floor plan was completely redesigned to create a layout suited to the needs of a large family.
From the moment you enter, the space sets the tone with a clear and welcoming layout. The living area combines the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Each space has its own place, where natural light plays a central role and enhances the beige and cream tones. Oak parquet flooring covers the floors of the rooms.
The living room immediately catches the eye with its generous proportions and comfortable furnishings. The corner sofa invites shared moments, while the brass chandelier adds an extra touch of French elegance. Long curtains accentuate the high ceilings. The furniture is simple and classic, and the room exudes harmony.
The kitchen is a welcoming space with its comfortable dining area and Louis XVI-style medallion chairs. No upper cabinets were installed. This choice opens up the view and makes the room feel more airy. The stone countertop complements the light-colored cabinet fronts and discreet handles. The dining area extends this convivial atmosphere with a large wooden table. A hanging chandelier invites you to settle in for dinner in the evening and enjoy this warm room with your family.
In the bedrooms, the atmosphere is serene. The decor is based on soothing colors and soft materials. The hand-painted walls in the children’s room add a poetic touch. Each space features distinct areas for sleeping, working, and relaxing.
The master bathroom features luxurious materials such as marble and wood. The entire apartment embodies classic chic, a timeless and reassuring style perfectly executed here. Photo: Damir Otegen
