She works in fashion, and her first 40sqm apartment reflects that
The design studio 2312interiors has restructured a small 40sqm apartment. A partition wall was removed, and a colorful palette was used
The owner of this small 40sqm apartment bought it brand-new. The original layout was narrow, with five doors all leading to the entryway. Not exactly what she wanted. And yet, designer Anna Shevchenko, from the studio 2312interiors, who was tasked with its layout and decoration, has turned it into a one-of-a-kind interior.
The original apartment suffered from a classic developer flaw: a kitchen and living room that were long and narrow, dark, and not very functional. Anna Shevchenko removed the partition between the two rooms. A simple action, but one that proved to be decisive. Light now flows through the space. A custom-made dining table with a ceramic base has found its place there. The reconfigured layout now features a living room, a dining area, a bedroom enclosed by curtains with built-in storage, and an entryway with a built-in closet.
The client works in fashion and this is her first apartment. She came to the designer with a painting she bought at a gallery: a work by artist Laziza Tulaganova featuring warm, bold tones. This painting served as the starting point for the decor.
Others inspiration comes from Almodóvar’s films, the Flemish masters, Madrid, and Mexico City. Anna Shevchenko has translated all of this into this small 40sqm apartment. The walls were painted in earthy tones. One panel was covered with Borastapeter wallpaper, which adds pattern without being over the top.
The furniture strikes a balance between new and vintage. A console table and rug are from IKEA. The wall sconces are vintage finds. The bedspread is from Zara Home. Plants on the windowsills, in their Zara Home planters, remind us that an interior also thrives with greenery.
This is exactly what the client wanted: an apartment that functions easily in daily life, without sacrificing a certain personal touch. This apartment is exemplary and proves to those who think a new home can’t be original that it is possible with professional design. Photo: Evgeny Kulibaba

Color as a unifying theme
