The Lucia from Vagabond Haven is a 39sqm small house available in Europe, that brings a fresh take on style. With its Scandinavian cottage look, it seems to have come straight out of the Swedish countryside, especially if you choose the red exterior finish. It’s not a tiny house since it’s installed on permanent foundations, which in turn allows it to be wider.

Four meters wide, compared to 2.60 m for a standard tiny house. That single figure completely changes the way you live inside.

A mini house that feels like a big one

Delivered by truck and set on a foundation, the Lucia measures 7.5 m long by 4 m wide, with a total height of 4m. Its living area totals 39sqm, including 30sqm on the ground floor and 9sqm on the mezzanine.

For the exterior, you can choose between natural spruce siding or ThermoWood, a heat-treated wood that is more weather-resistant. The metal roof is simple and durable. A double-glazed door on the facade provides direct access to the living room. A second entrance is located on the side. It also features triple-pane windows with black frames on the inside and white frames on the outside. The overall design gives the house a silhouette reminiscent of a Scandinavian cottage.

The renderings showcase four exterior color options: Swedish red (the famous Falun red, an iconic shade in Scandinavia), white, black, and a natural finish. Each version radically changes the character of the house.

An interior that embraces light

The ground floor is organized into three clearly defined areas. Along the glass facade, the living room and kitchen occupy the main section. On the opposite side is the bathroom.

The ceiling rises to 3.50m. This ceiling height completely transforms the perception of space. Combined with the large picture windows that flood the living room with natural light, it creates a heightened sense of volume.

Interior finishes include painted drywall, wood paneling, or birch plywood. For flooring, you can choose between laminate, hardwood, pine, or oak. These options allow you to tailor the look to something very Nordic with white birch or light pine, or something more timeless with oiled oak.

The living room and kitchen

Even though we’re only looking at artist’s renderings, it’s easy to imagine what the interior of this 39sqm small house looks like. The living room opens directly onto double glass doors and a large window that extends all the way to the roof ridge. Linen sheers filter the light. The Landskrona sofa in smoky gray fabric from IKEA takes center stage, flanked by a white lacquered Kragsta coffee table.

Its kitchen, adjacent to the living room, features a simple design. The all-white IKEA ENHET kitchen features an anthracite concrete-effect countertop that contrasts with the walls. A black built-in oven, an induction cooktop, a single sink, and two gray floating shelves above complete the look. It’s functional, and a table for two also furnishes the dining area.

Bedroom on mezzanine and clever staircase

The mezzanine is accessed via a discreet staircase hidden behind a closet. On the practical side, each step conceals a storage space.

The mezzanine bedroom features a double bed, low nightstands with reading lamps, and custom sliding wardrobes. The ceiling follows the slope of the roof.

Our take on the decorative choices

The color palette chosen by Vagabond Haven embodies classic Scandinavian consistency. It features the usual off-whites, sand tones, light wood, and touches of anthracite gray. It’s a safe, crowd-pleasing choice.

A few choices are worth considering. The IKEA ENHET kitchen is a good choice in terms of value for money and modularity, but a wood model would add more warmth to this otherwise very white interior. The Landskrona sofa is a safe bet with its low profile and somewhat generic fabric, though it can be enhanced with colorful throw pillows.

Its bathroom is functional but lacks any real decorative flair. It’s clearly designed to appeal to the widest possible audience.

The loft bedroom features light wood flooring, white walls, and a very successful, welcoming atmosphere. Its white protective gallery, visible from the living room, adds a nice visual touch. The headroom under the sloping roof is sufficient to be comfortable. Built-in IKEA Bestå storage units on the gable end make it practical to live in.

Technical features and winter comfort

The load-bearing structure, made of 145 mm wooden studs, is insulated with mineral wool. The triple-pane windows minimize heat loss. For heating, Vagabond Haven offers several options: an air-to-air heat pump, electric radiators, or a wood- and pellet-burning stove. The latter would have perfectly complemented the chalet-style ambiance, and its absence from the renderings is a slight surprise.

The ventilation system provides fresh air to the living room and exhaust ventilation in the bathroom. All plumbing is concealed within the walls. The electrical system includes a panel with a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), LED lighting, and outlets logically placed in the work and living areas.

Price and options

The Lucia starts at around €85,000 (about 97 000$), a price consistent with this type of tiny house. This price includes the fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. The remaining furniture, the deck, and the pergola are additional options whose cost can significantly affect the final price. It’s an investment, but for a home of such high quality, this is to be expected, even though it’s fair to say that this mini-home is positioned more toward the high-end of the market.
