We’ve already featured this red IKEA PS 2026 floor lamp twice in our previous articles, and it’s one of the standout pieces in this highly anticipated new collection. Under the rooftops of Gothenburg, on the sixth and top floor of a 1909 building, this 81sqm apartment embraced it right away. The space combines characterful architecture with abundant natural light. And a decor that skillfully blends affordable pieces with iconic furniture, all topped off with a private terrace overlooking the city’s rooftops.

An unconventional apartment with spacious rooms

The tone is set from the moment you walk in. Solid oak flooring runs through every room. The high ceilings, color palette, and spacious layout are unique. A custom-built bookshelf lines the hallway.

The living room is the heart of the apartment. A traditional tiled stove occupies one corner of the room, and the windows in original triangular niches overlook the city's rooftops. The skylight floods the room with light at all hours. Its walls are painted in a powdery pink shade, Blushing Peach by Jotun. They are accented by moldings painted in Warm Blush. The living room of this spacious two-room apartment is large enough to handle this color. Some might find it overwhelming, but with this amount of space, it’s anything but.

The bedroom features another bold color, a deep blue, Tromb by Beckers, which envelops the space and highlights the white furniture. A String desk area, another Scandinavian icon, stands out in particular. The view of the rooftops from the bed gives the impression of sleeping in the sky.

The IKEA PS 2026 floor lamp, a piece that is sure to become iconic

This is where the decor really comes into its own. In the living room, the dark red IKEA PS 2026 floor lamp makes a striking entrance. Designed by Alexander Pott for the new PS 2026 collection, it stands 182cm tall. It stands out for its metal joints, which allow you to direct the light as you please. Toward the ceiling, toward the wall, or as a direct reading light, it adapts to all your needs. And it’s available in other colors, blue and yellow (check them out by clicking this link)

Here, the dark red serves as a strong visual statement. In an interior with soft, neutral tones, it introduces a welcome pop of color. It’s not a timid accent color, it’s a bold choice. And at £35, it’s an affordable splurge. The lacquered metal, the shade, and the sculptural silhouette make it a piece that far exceeds its price. This floor lamp does the job of a design piece that costs ten times as much. That’s exactly what you expect from a good decorative accessory.

The Bollo armchair by Fogia, a design icon that’s much less affordable

Next to the IKEA floor lamp, another piece in the living room deserves attention. The Bollo armchair by the Swedish brand Fogia embodies the exact opposite at the other end of the price spectrum. With its generous seat, enveloping curves, and natural beige fabric upholstery, it represents Scandinavian design at its premium. Fogia is a leading brand in Scandinavia, less well-known in France but whose pieces are exported to the most cutting-edge interiors in Northern Europe.

The Bollo is understated and comfortable. Paired with the IKEA PS 2026 floor lamp in the same setting, the wide budget gap is intriguing: two approaches to Nordic design, two price ranges, yet the same sense of simplicity. It’s this blend of the affordable and the high-end that offers inspiration for your own interior. Regardless of price, an object’s beauty lies above all in its design and craftsmanship.

What Planète déco thinks of these decorative choices

Let’s be honest: this kind of mix is harder to pull off than it seems. Pairing a £35 IKEA floor lamp with a Fogia armchair costing several thousand euros in this attic apartment could have felt out of place. And yet, it’s a real success.

Because the IKEA PS 2026 floor lamp has real personality. It doesn’t try to imitate luxury; instead, it embraces its industrial, articulated character at an affordable price. In this warm terracotta and hardwood floor setting, its metallic burgundy red is the graphic touch the room needed to avoid feeling overloaded.

The choice of midnight blue for the bedroom is also a rather bold decision. Many would have opted for a mundane white or gray. The Tromb shade from Beckers completely transforms the room’s atmosphere, making it unique.

On the other hand, we might have wished for a bit more daring in the kitchen. The white and light woods are impeccable but predictable. A bolder backsplash tile or a few colorful accessories could have extended the decorative energy of the living room into this space.

Finally, the terrace is worth a closer look. A private outdoor space like this in the heart of the city is an absolute rarity. Especially on the top floor as here, this “Tropézienne” is an undeniable asset.

Nordic style in all its uniqueness

This penthouse apartment in Gothenburg perfectly illustrates the most compelling aspects of contemporary Scandinavian design: a consistent aesthetic, a frugal approach to certain elements to allow for investment in more expensive ones. The IKEA PS 2026 floor lamp isn’t the most expensive piece in the living room, but it fits perfectly into this high-end apartment.

A residential neighborhood in the heart of Gothenburg

Located in Sweden’s second-largest city, the residential neighborhood of Linnéstaden is both bohemian and bourgeois, somewhat comparable to Paris’s Marais district. It is home to independent cafés, trendy home decor shops, high-quality restaurants, and lush green parks.

A large, lush park is nearby. The cobblestone streets, brick facades, and early 20th-century buildings create an authentically Nordic atmosphere, at least as we imagine it. It sometimes brings to mind certain neighborhoods in Bordeaux or Lyon in France, with that same gentle density of a city on a human scale where life is good and beautiful classical architecture has been preserved.

The building housing this attic apartment was built in 1909 by architect O. M. Holmén,  it has undergone a complete and exemplary renovation that fully preserved its historic charm while modernizing the interior.
